Barack H. Obama, as the first president of black color in history, who has made countless speeches during his career, is known to be the most influential up until this day, even though he is no longer a president of the United States. Barack Obama continues to use different types of rhetorical devices in public speeches so that the audience can learn how each speech is written and what skills were used to create it.
In Obama´s back to school speech, he claims that each individual has their own responsibility that they need to take care of in order, to successfully fulfill their everyday needs.
In the speech, Obama mentions that he would get up at 4:30 every morning to get extra lessons from his mother. In paragraph three, ¨…She didnt have the money to send me where all the American kids went to school, but she thought it was important for me to keep up with an American education. So she decided to teach me extra lessons herself, Monday through Friday…¨ While Obama is discussing his life and how it was to be a young adolscent back in his day, ethos and pathos overlap eachother in the paragraph. Obama being the experienced figure knowing what it was like having to get up early in the morning for school. Pathos was being used ¨I know that feeling. When I was young, my family lived overseas¨ Obama is creating an emotional response.
