Background of the Study
The Student Handbook is the official statement of rules and regulations. The student handbook has been prepared as a guide to help the students understand better than many opportunities and services that are made available to assist the students both inside and outside the classroom. All students are responsible for acquainting themselves with the contents of the Student Handbook.
The purpose of this study is to know if the students is properly guided about the contents of the student handbook. According to (Meador,2017) every student has a student handbook. It strongly believes that should be updated and changed every year. It is essential that they keep the student handbook up-to-date. It is also important to realize that every school is different. They have different needs and their students have different issues. A policy that will work in one district, may not be as effective in another district. With that said, it is believing there are ten essential policies that every student handbook should include: Attendance Policy, Bullying Policy, Cellphone Policy, Dress Code Policy, Fighting Policy, Respect Policy, Student Code of Conduct, Student Discipline, Student Search and Seizure Policy, and Substitute Policy.
The University Student Handbook provides general information and guidance that they may need to help them to make the most of the opportunities on offer at the University of Oxford. It also gives them formal notification and explanation of the University’s codes, regulations, policies, and procedures. New students starting at the University each academic year receive a printed copy of University Student Handbook via their college (or department/faculty for certain courses). Students returning to continue their studies each subsequent year can find the version for their year entry on Proctors’ Office website. They will find useful information throughout along with the relevant contact details and web links to more detail, which they may need during their studies.
Pangasinan State University composed of nine campuses the Asingan, Alaminos Bayambang, Binmaley, Infanta, Lingayen, San Carlos, Sta Maria, and Urdaneta and that nine campuses is prepares students to be productive, engaged and socially responsible citizen leaders of the future, that is why it is important that the students may have their own student handbook to guide them because in this, it highlights the University’s policies, rules and regulations and major concerns affecting their wellbeing and interest as a student of Pangasinan State University. It is therefore most important that the students familiarize themselves with the said policies, rules and guidelines for them to have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the set procedures and system of the University as they greatly affect their welfare as students.
We, the researchers studying this topic because we would like to measure the observance of the university on the Awareness of Students on Pangasinan State University Student Handbook and if it really help them to know their rights, policies, duties and responsibilities.

Statement of the Problem
The study aims to determine the Awareness of Students on Pangasinan State University Student’s Handbook, Specifically, it seeks to answer the following questions:

Significance of the Study
The importance of the study is to give additional information to different individuals including:
Pangasinan State University – This study will help the university to identify the level of awareness of every student about the content of the student handbook.
Students – This will serve as a basis for proper practices of the rules and regulations of the school.

Scope and Delimitation of Study
The study primarily focuses on the Awareness of Student on Pangasinan State University Student’s Handbook. The study covers all students on Pangasinan State University San Carlos Campus such as College of Education, College of Agriculture, and College of Hospitality Management, Business Administration, and Computing.

Definition of Terms
The following terms are introduced for a better understanding of the study, since they are defined conceptually.

Awareness – This refers to the ability to directly know and perceive, to feel, or to be consciousness of events, objects, thoughts, emotions, or sensory patterns. In this level consciousness, sense data can be confirmed by an observer without necessarily understanding.

Student Handbook – This refers to gives them formal notification and explanation of the University’s codes, regulations, policies, and procedures.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

This chapter presents the review of related literature and studies which have significant facts about the topic under study.

According to Chavez (2007) Students have been into different information drive about the Institution such as the freshmen orientation and departments general assembly to inform their rights and duties as students. In addition, they are reminded of the things they should avoid while inside or gaining entry to the campus. This study was undertaken to determine the relation of student awareness on the campus rules and regulation. This study also dealt with the different means of awareness campaign that the school had been using for many years.
To determine the relation of awareness of students, variables were used to set a factors such as school rules and regulation, gender, age, student manual, bulletin board, school policies, minor violation and faculty member, which directly influenced the awareness of the students on school rules and regulations to institutional discipline. The data were collected from students who had violations from December 2006 to January 2007. The logbook of the security office served as the main source of data and the questionnaires were distributed to all minor offense violators.
Findings revealed that majority of the minor violations were committed by male students with 90.62% as compared to 9.38% for female respondents. The older the age bracket of the respondents, the lesser they commit minor violations. Furthermore, results show that greater number of the respondents who committed minor violation is in the age bracket of seventeen to nineteen years old, followed by students who are in the age bracket of twenty to twenty-two with 37%. The lowest percentage age bracket of respondents committing minor violation is in the age of twenty-three and above.
Results from the survey showed that faculty members reminding the students on school policies were able to get the highest mean of 4.03 with an interpretation of effective. The next highest indicators were drawing, letters, bulletin board, student’s manual, and orientation and with an interpretation of slightly effective. Leaflets and departments meeting were able to get the lowest interpretation of less effective with a mean of 2.8 and 2.6 respectively. The data only show that faculty members could be of big help in disseminating the rules and regulations of the school in order to prevent occurrence of minor violations.

Foreign Literature
Jurnal Pendidikan (2005) Incomplete and vague information hinder students’ understanding of school rules and regulations. Sometimes, the information is not communicated in a proper manner and this may result in delinquent behavior as there is a general lack of understanding and awareness of the prohibitions involved. As such, schools are required to ensure the rules are set out in specific terms and distributed to all students. This measure would lessen educators’ stress due to the rise in incidences of bullying, and fighting among students.
Although a school is vested with the formal authority to punish students for violating school regulations, it must adhere to the procedures established by the Ministry of Education. This is vital to ensure no breach of the rights of the students. Unfortunately, there may be violations of the legal rights of the students when the school authority does not have a clear understanding of the regulations related to the disciplinary procedures. This poses a tremendous risk as the likelihood of a legal suit arises.
Nevertheless, students need an appropriate level of awareness pertaining to them legal rights before they can initiate court proceedings against the school. Students at present are required to purchase a copy of the school’s regulations related to discipline. This measure seeks to foster greater awareness and understanding of the rules and regulations.
Consequently, students may be aware of the different types of permitted and prohibited behavior. An appropriate understanding of the punishment for each particular offence may act as a deterrent. Student awareness of issues related to their rights is important as it indicates to what extent students are aware of their basic fundamental rights. School authorities may have to re-examine existing approaches to discipline when there is a high level of awareness.

This student handbook is designed to serve as one of your primary sources of information on all aspects of the program. Every effort has been made to be current and factual. Updates will be provided as needed to reflect changes in curriculum and/or academic policy. When in doubt, students are urged to consult their major and/or minor academic advisor(s) for clarification and guidance.

In the final analysis, your successful completion of your degree requirements is the real measure of the success of the program. This handbook, as well as other resources available to you from the university, provides you with tools that you can use to assist you in achieving your degree. Please make good and frequent use of them.

METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the elements of methodology that will be applied in the study. The chapter covers research design, subjects of the study, data gathering instruments, data gathering procedure and ends with statistical treatment of the data.

Research Design
The researcher used descriptive survey research as a research design. This method was used in the conduct of the study to determine the awareness on the Pangasinan State University Student’s Handbook of the students with respect to the demographic profile and awareness of students on Pangasinan State University Student’s Handbook.

Subjects of the Study
In this study the researchers describe the demographic profile of the respondents on Pangasinan State University Student’s Handbook in Pangasinan State University, San Carlos City Campus. Based on the data that will be gathering, the researchers came up with a generalization and evaluation of the subjects through statistical analysis in terms of all parameters related to Pangasinan State University Student’s Handbook as specified in this study.

Data Gathering Instrument
The survey questionnaire was used by the researchers as the main tool in data gathering. The first part of the questionnaire consists of the demographic profile of the respondents such as age, sex and college or department. The second and third part of the questionnaire is the survey proper which will determine the awareness of students on Pangasinan State University Student’s Handbook and problems encountered.

The questionnaire is guided by the rating of Likert Scale with a legend of the following:

Data Gathering Procedure
Upon approval of the questionnaire, the researchers will seek permission from the higher management where the survey will be conducted using written permission. After the request approval, the questionnaire will be distributed and administered to the students of Pangasinan State University, San Carlos City Campus which tge researchers will read and explaine carefully the instruction and the students are to answer honestly.
Statistical Treatment of Data
The responses that will be gathered from the questionnaires were carefully tabulated, analyzed and interpreted. The statistical treatment that was used in this study is frequency distribution and percentages and average weighted mean.
To answer the first problem on the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of age, sex, college or department.
